You’re with your child far more than we ever will be
An hour a week with a therapist is an hour. The other hundred and sixty-seven are yours — the school run, the supermarket, the bath, the bedtime. That’s where change actually happens.
Parent capacity building is therapy aimed at you rather than at your child. Not because you’re doing it wrong. Because you’re the one who’s there.
What this looks like
Sessions are practical and specific to your family. We might:
- Unpick a routine that keeps falling apart, and rebuild it a step at a time
- Work out what’s underneath a behaviour that’s been baffling everyone
- Practise strategies together, so you’ve done it once before you do it alone
- Adjust the physical setup of your home — the bathroom stool, the morning basket
- Help you explain your child’s needs to a teacher, a grandparent, a sports coach
- Build your confidence to advocate in meetings where you’re outnumbered
Who it suits
- Parents who’ve been given strategies that don’t survive contact with real life
- Families where one routine — mornings, mealtimes, bedtime — is dominating everything
- Carers wanting to understand the “why” behind what they’re seeing
- Parents preparing for a school transition, a new sibling, or a plan review
- Families in regional areas, or anyone who finds telehealth easier than travelling
What we won’t do
We won’t hand you a laminated behaviour chart and wish you luck. We won’t suggest anything that needs an hour a day you don’t have. And we won’t pretend there’s a version of parenting that doesn’t involve hard days.
Strategies get built around the family you actually are — your work hours, your housing, your other kids, your own sensory needs. If it doesn’t fit your life, it isn’t a strategy. It’s homework.
Funding
Parent capacity building is a legitimate use of NDIS funding under capacity building supports, and is frequently written into plans for exactly this purpose. We are not an NDIS-registered provider, so we can work with self-managed and plan-managed funding but not agency-managed plans. If you’re unsure whether your plan covers it, ask us — we’ll tell you straight, and we can put the rationale in writing for your plan manager.
