Support that arrives in the room, not just in a report
Teachers get sent a lot of recommendations. Many of them assume a spare adult, a quieter room, or twenty minutes that don’t exist.
Consultation works the other way around: we come to the setting, watch how the day actually runs, and build strategies that fit the classroom you have — the group size, the layout, the timetable and the staffing.
What we offer
Classroom and yard observation — A structured look at how a child participates across the day, including transitions, mat time, table work and the playground, where a great deal usually becomes clear.
Teacher and educator coaching — Working alongside staff on strategies, with time to practise and troubleshoot rather than a handover document.
Environmental review — Seating, lighting, noise, visual load, storage, and the physical setup of learning spaces.
Whole-setting professional development — Sessions for teams on sensory processing, motor development, regulation, and building inclusive classrooms.
Transition support — Kinder to school, and year-to-year handovers where continuity matters.
Contribution to planning — Input to individual learning plans, adjustment documentation and funding applications.
How it typically runs
- A conversation with the setting about what you’re seeing and what you’ve already tried
- An observation visit, arranged around your timetable
- A written summary with practical, specific, staffing-realistic recommendations
- A follow-up session to see what’s working and adjust what isn’t
Step four matters. Recommendations without a review are guesses.
Working with families
Where consultation concerns an individual child, we work with written consent from their family, and we keep parents genuinely in the loop. Educators and families noticing different things about the same child is normal and useful — a shared picture is usually better than either one alone.
Booking
Consultation is arranged directly with the setting and invoiced to the school or service. A child’s own NDIS funding can sometimes fund school-based OT support where it relates to their plan goals, provided that funding is self-managed or plan-managed — we are not an NDIS-registered provider. Get in touch and we’ll work out what applies.
